You want to educate people, build community, provide comfort, satisfy desire, improve access. You have a mission.

So do I.

My mission is to help you use content to connect with your people — the people who need what you’re offering (even if they don’t know it yet).

Especially if your people are parents and people trying to become parents. Let’s face it, they need a lot of connection.

What’s my secret sauce?

Data + Empathy.

Data

I dig into the facts and figures with keyword research, competitor analysis, and market research.

Empathy

I look at reviews, testimonials, and interview customers (or potential customers) to understand what’s really under the surface for them.

My writing superpower is making people feel seen and understood — because my passion is using words to create connection.

I’ve spent my life trying to understand the power of words. From devouring every L.M. Montgomery book as a young girl to getting my law degree (and the English degree and MFA in Theatre in between), I learned how we employ words to silence, to comfort, to entreat, to compel, to connect.

The right message has the power to draw people in, and the wrong message has the power to push them away.

After years of working to get a blog that reflects my brand, I feel a mixture of relief and joy.

  • I live in Vermont with my wife, two young kids, and a very unruly dog.

  • I’ve watched every episode of Murder She Wrote — more than once. There’s something oddly comforting about a murder mystery show that always ends with the heroine laughing.

  • I induced lactation (a long and tedious process with lots of medication) so that I could breastfeed my son, who I did not give birth to. My essay about the experience is included in the anthology Swelling With Pride

  • I battled through years of infertility and pregnancy loss before we were able to start a family. You can read about my experience in this article I wrote for the On Parenting section of The Washington Post.

  • I once wore a stick-on mustache every day for a month (Hello, Movember) to raise money for a public service legal scholarship.

10% of my profits go to the Black Mamas Matter Alliance. Black women in the United States are between three and four times more likely than white women to die during pregnancy, during childbirth, and during the postpartum period — from preventable causes. Join me in donating here.

Katie is one of the best writers I’ve ever worked with. She’s smart, she’s versatile, and she is unfailingly thorough. Whether I needed something lively or something more academic, I knew that I could count on Katie to deliver.
